Volunteers

A current project.

ProjectScotland is a national charity that provides opportunities for young people to realise their potential through volunteering. It matches young people to worthwhile full-time volunteering opportunities with community and not-for-profit organisations. It adds value and grows the capacity of community partners while supporting the personal development of young people through trained mentors.

In 2007, the Scottish Government decided to allocate funds to local authorities to support community projects in their own area, rather than giving grants centrally. As a result, along with many other charities, ProjectScotland’s funding from the Scottish Government came to an end.

Scotland is one of the few western countries in the world not to directly support a national volunteering scheme for young people.

In January 2010 I joined the management team at ProjectScotland and have started to photograph young volunteers outside their voluntary placements.
